Emil Virkki

Emil Virkki is a user experience designer at Kaiku Health, a Helsinki-based digital health startup. The Kaiku Health application captures patient-reported health outcomes in cancer care, enabling early interventions and personalized patient support. Emil believes the future of healthcare is data-driven, value-based and patient-centered.

Jyrki Nieminen

Director of R&D at Merivaara Corp.

Visa Honkanen

Visa Honkanen MD, PhD, has worked for 25 years in health care in different leadership positions, both in private for profit and non-profit organizations, and in public health care. He also has experience in the innovational pharma industry in UCB Pharma, where he was the head of medical affairs for Northern Europe. His research interest has been in clinical studies and experimental statistics. Visa Honkanen is a pediatrician and a pediatric rheumatologist. He did his pediatric rheumatology training at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He still teaches and practices pediatric rheumatology.

Zeynep Falay von Flittner

Zeynep Falay von Flittner is the design director of Hellon, one of Finland’s leading service design companies. Zeynep has over 15 years of international experience in service design and design leadership. She is helping public and private organisations to become more customer centric and increase their customer experience through human-centric thinking and design.

Sakari Forsman

Sakari Forsman, architect SAFA, working at SARC Architects in Helsinki. Sakari has been working in the field of hospital architecture for the last 10 years and is the project architect of the New Children's Hospital in Helsinki.

Pekka Lahdenne

Pekka Lahdenne, Head of Digital and Innovation Services from the Department of Children and Adolescents at HUS.

Prashant Jha

Dr. Prashant Jha is a physician-engineer-entrepreneur-editor, who trained in family medicine, bioengineering, product design, computer science, strategy and innovation management from Patna Medical College, St. Guys & Thomas Hospital, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi, Stanford University and Harvard University.

Sami Niemelä

I am a designer and one of the co-founders of the design and tranformation agency Nordkapp.

In a nutshell, you’ve probably read about designers being the next management consultants. Well, that’s what I do. I help companies envision, define and build new products, and design and coach the change needed to make them reality.

Saara Hassinen

Saara Hassinen is the Managing Director of Healthtech Finland which is the industry association for health technology companies in Finland. The healthtech industry is one of the largest high-tech export segments of Finnish industry. In 2016 the value of exports was €2.1 billion. The industry directly employs over 10,000 people.

Pitching competition for an innovative healthcare solution


Do you want to improve patient life and Well-being? Do you have a research based idea for novel health product/service that you would like to commercialise?

Health Design Pitching Competition is open for teams from Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences.

The number of finalists is not fixed. The language of the competition is English. Participants will be Pre-selected by a Health Design Jury based on their applications.

The competition is organized during 28th and 29th of November.

Pitches will be 5 min in length.

Semifinal: 28th from 17:00-19:00 at Aalto Learning Centre, Makers space
Final and Award ceremony: 29th between 15:30-18:00 at Health Design 2017 (Makers space)

Total funding is 50 000 € for implementing the solutions
First place is 30 000 €

Even if the team doesn’t win, they have a chance to get valuable feedback from the Health Design jury. Teams also have an opportunity to form new partnerships and learn about how design can help them to succeed.

The competition is organized by Health Design and sponsored by Instrumentariumin tiedesäätiö sr. The goal of the competition is to promote the future of research based health innovations in Finland.

Criteria:

Research-based: The idea should be based on academic research. 

Impact: What is the effect you hope to achieve by turning research into a solution?

Need focused: Does your solution solve a local or global health need?

Novel: Do you have an original idea or an new approach to existing problem?

Plan and timing: What are the steps and schedule to bring your idea into reality?

Quality of team and circumstances: Why are you and your working environment uniquely qualified to make the impact a reality?
